ROSELAND, NJ -- (Marketwired) -- 12/19/16 -- The main mission of Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, or SEWS, is to deliver innovative electrical distribution systems to the automotive industry. As an organization that prides itself on developing new technologies and understanding efficient design principles, the company realized it needed to automate its benefits administration process, and do away with paper forms.
With 1,700 employees in the United States, Corporate Compensation and Benefits Administrator, Rhonda S. Gearlds was manually entering benefits information for hundreds of employees. To save time and reduce data entry errors, SEWS turned to ADP for help.
"Benefits is often one of the most confusing choices employees have to make, so I was often inundated with employee questions during open enrollment," said Gearlds. "Now with ADP, employees can go online and can see what they're enrolled in, which family members are covered, and which elections they need to make. Before, employees were always asking questions such as 'Will my flexible spending account roll over?' Now, the system alerts them that an election decision needs to be made each year."
Another concern that was keeping Gearlds up at night: Complying with the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
"When I realized we needed to prepare and remit Forms 1094-C and 1095-C for the first time last year, I started to panic," said Gearlds. "ADP had been handling our payroll for the past eight years so it was a no-brainer to have them help with ACA compliance. Once I provided my ADP team with the data we need to track each year, it really took a load off my shoulders and the process was seamless."
Gerry Leonard, ADP president of Benefit Services said he was delighted ADP could help SEWS automate its processes and help stay in compliance.
"We're excited Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems is relying on ADP to relieve some of its administrative burden, ensure data integrity and assist with compliance," said Leonard. "We know it can be a significant undertaking to upgrade critical systems that impact employees and HR administrators. That's why we remain committed to delivering an easy, seamless, and integrated client experience that helps organizations like SEWS succeed."
According to Gearlds, the response from employees using the new self-service benefits platform has been overwhelmingly positive.
"Employees have told us the system is quick and easy to navigate, and they love the fact they don't need to fill out paper forms and turn them in to HR, which was always a challenge for business travelers," added Gearlds.
The biggest benefit for Gearlds, she said, is a supportive ADP team that's been there every step of the way, from implementation to learning the new solution.
"ADP recognizes we have limited manpower and always has my back," said Gearlds. "The system was implemented in just five months and customer service has been wonderful in terms of providing guidance whenever I have a question. I always get the expert advice I need and the relationship I have with my dedicated ADP team is a true partnership."
