We are in a low fire, low hire environment. I'm hearing it called “job hugging,” where employees are sticking with their employers.

My take on this? It's time to double down on growth efforts for your employees. In fact, maybe take some of the costs that you're saving from recruiting and put that right into growth efforts for your employees.

The other thing that's really happening right now is we're at an unprecedented time when it comes to technology advances. We've got workers coming into the organization who are AI natives. This means that leaders need to really understand how to help their employees recognize their differentiated value and their unique strengths, and contribute those to the organization.

That technology, by the way, is bringing about such fast change in all sorts of ways. And what that really means for employers and for leaders is that they should be looking at a future of work where they're micro sizing everything.

What I mean by micro sizing is when you think about, the typical length for a promotion for somebody, maybe it's a year or two years, 3 to 5 years. People coming into the workforce today want things quick. They want it now and they want what they want based on their definition of career success. So a great way to do that is to make shorter rewards and to reward for things that aren't typically rewarded for maybe, other forms of growth, like they did a stretch assignment or a project, maybe they, contributed their strengths to the organization in a way that they hadn't done before.

Micro-sized the rewards, the compensation, the promotions for those kinds of things. That's what we're going to see in the future.
