I love this question. Do I need to disclose when AI helps me draft something like an email or a report?
Helena Almeida
So it's pretty clear sometimes when AI is is being used. I think this is a really a depends thing. There's we talk a lot about transparency in the law. So it's important to be transparent when you're creating an image, right? Like we're not creating images with people's likenesses without their permission.
We're not doing inappropriate things like that. That that's there's a sharp line there in the law. When you're using AI to draft an email. Right. The goal is for you to be able to inject your own kind of your own personality and your own way of speaking and your own ideas into it. Right? So it becomes your work product in the end.
You know, there are so, so I think it kind of depends, right? If it's sort of like a one off email that you had help with the first draft and it became your own, I don't think you necessarily need to disclose it. Right. And there's no law saying that you do. We don't want people interacting with AI and not knowing that they're interacting with AI.
So think about a chatbot. You know, it's, you know, the “Dear Suzy” chatbot, right? And we don't want people thinking that Suzy's actually a person when it's actually a machine. But in the context of drafting emails, and I think it's sort of a discretionary thing.
Kasara Weinrich
That makes sense. I think to your point, drafting something like an email, I do wonder if it is worth disclosing, if it's something like a report to where then, hey, I did a once over, but AI assisted me with this report, so please feel free to double check the work here. Double check my work and it's work. I also find, like me personally, if I have an idea that I just need help kind of building out a little bit more or much to the antithesis of what AI was developed to do, I ask it to kind of challenge an assumption of mine, or give me a perspective or a lens that I'm not considering in, what I'm building or what I'm discussing.
And I don't think that I would say, hey, just so everyone knows, I was originally going to present this, but now I included this thing with the help of AI. That's not necessarily something I would do, but It's interesting how how the gray line comes into where there are absolutely moments where I'll say, my pocket robot helped me with this. And then there are other moments where, you know.
Helena Almeida
Yeah. And I mean, it's it's it's a, it's a matter of integrity too, right? I mean, there's no way that I'm going to be able to turn around a ten page report in in half an hour and then and pull it off as, as mine. Right. And and I wouldn't because the goal isn't to, you know, to trick people into thinking that all of a sudden you are literally a machine.
It is actually to help kind of enhance and improve what I can do. So I do think it's a line that I think all of us have to, to figure out on our own.
